In this 3-session workshop\, we’ll explore how to create a budget\, how to use a budget as a guide throughout the year\, and how to plan for sa vings and reserves in service of your group’s goal s. We’ll also cover methods of comparing plans to reality as you go\, and adjusting when things don’ t go according to plan.
\n \nThis workshop is a mix of both process and technical pieces. We’ ll share frameworks for the who\, what\, when and how of group involvement in the budgeting process as well as some of the mechanics of calculation fo r Budgets\, Budgets versus Actuals\, and Cash Flow Projections\, including spreadsheet templates wit h formulas and options for format and organization . We’ll build skills and confidence for directing resources with greater clarity and intention toget her.
\n \nWho is this inten ded for?
\n \nBuilding Sh ared Futures is designed with the expectation that participants are already somewhat familiar with t he main purposes and basic content of four financi al reports–Profit & Loss\, Balance Sheet\, Budget\ , and Cash Flow Projections–and with core financia l terms such as income\, expense\, equity\, asset\ , liability\, accounts payable and receivable. For grounding in this material\, we recommend first a ttending the Cosmos Fina ncial Foundations workshop series before takin g this workshop.
\n \nThis series will be m ost applicable for those who have a financial role in their organization (for example: Member of fin ance committee\, Treasurer\, Finance Director/Mana ger/Coordinator\, Program or Operations Manager/Di rector/Coordinator\, Co-/Executive Director\, coop member\, and others who significantly interact wi th budgeting\, as well as people interested in ski lling up for such roles.
\n \nLearning is a pplicable to cooperatives\, businesses\, nonprofit s\, and other groups who budget. The focus is on g roup finances\, but individuals and sole proprieto rs may find some parts applicable too.

\n \nThree 2-hour online workshops using Zoom with at least one break per session.
\n \nCosmos wo rkshops are participatory and we will invite you t o engage in several ways: video on (when possible and comfortable)\, interacting with a shared slide deck\, using reactions\, and answering or asking questions in chat or aloud.
\n \nZoom autom atic closed captioning will be enabled.
\n \n < p>ASL interpretation\, CART\, and/or advanced copi es of the slides are possible if requests are rece ived at least 2 weeks in advance of the first sess ion in the series.
